The Turkish National Football Team, defeating Austria 2-1 in the round of 16 of the 2024 European Championship, advanced to the quarterfinals, and the players achieved many firsts.

Merih Demiral, Abdülkerim Bardakcı, Kaan Ayhan, Mert Müldür, Ferdi Kadıoğlu, and Barış Alper Yılmaz, who stayed on the field for 90 minutes against Austria, dropped to the ground as soon as the referee blew the final whistle, celebrating their advancement to the quarterfinals on the field.

The national team exerted high effort throughout the match and covered a distance of 114.3 kilometres. The team covered 453.1 kilometres in the four matches they played in the tournament, averaging 113 kilometres per match. They exceeded their average running distance in the match against Austria.

- Merih Demiral achieved a first in 40 years

Defender Merih Demiral, who scored the goals that led the National Team to victory, became the first defender in 40 years to score two goals in a match at the European Championship. Before Merih, Jean-François Domergue of France, who played in the 1984 tournament, scored two goals against Portugal.

In major tournaments, a defender last scored two goals at the 1998 World Cup. French defender Lilian Thuram scored two goals in the match against Croatia, leading his team to a 2-1 victory.

Merih Demiral also equalled Nihat Kahveci, who scored two goals in the match against the Czech Republic at the 2008 European Championship, becoming the second player to score two goals in a game at the European Championship for the national team.

- Arda Güler made history

Nineteen-year-old star Arda Güler, who assisted Merih Demiral's second goal against Austria, made history in the European Football Championship.

Arda Güler became the third player under 20 to score a goal and provide an assist in the European Championship. Wayne Rooney from England and Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal achieved this in the 2004 tournament.

At the final whistle of the match played last night, the players fell to the ground, and Ferdi Kadıoğlu and Barış Alper Yılmaz, who covered the most distance, became the players who played the most minutes for the National Team.

Both players played 90 minutes in each of the four matches, totalling 360 minutes on the field.

- With 56 clearances, the national team stood out with the most clearances in the tournament.

The National Football Team cleared 56 dangerous situations against Austria, making them the team with the most clearances in the tournament. The trio of Merih-Kaan-Abdülkerim made 38 clearances, with Merih leading with 17 clearances.

- Ferdi Kadıoğlu stands out on his own

Ferdi Kadıoğlu, one of the most important players for the National Team in the tournament, stood out with his statistics. Ferdi Kadıoğlu became the only player in the game to win five or more duels (28), provide shot passes (11), dribble (5), intercept (10), and make passes (7).

Mert Günok, who prevented a goal with Baumgartner's header in the extra time of the Austria match, with an 80% save percentage, became the second player after Rüştü Reçber to achieve the highest save percentage in a European Championship for the national team. Rüştü Reçber reached an 85% save percentage in a match at the 2000 European Championship.

- The national team became the third most successful team

By defeating Austria 2-1 and achieving their third victory in their fourth match, the National Football Team became the third most successful team in the tournament. Spain, winning all four games, was the only team to achieve this, while the host Germany, with three wins and one draw, ranked second. The national team defeated Georgia, the Czech Republic, and Austria, with their only loss coming against Portugal in the group stage.

Germany, scoring ten goals in four matches, became the most prolific team in the tournament. Spain, scoring nine goals, was in second place. Turkey, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria scored seven goals and shared third place.
